South Texas Home of the Black Hereford

Our ancestors came to Texas in 1840 and settled in South Central Texas. Ship manifest indicated they brought saddles, horses, draft horses, oxen, and a red-and-white bull (hereford?).

They drove cattle to New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas 20 years before Chisum, Goodnight, and Loving. My dad started purebred herefords in 1947 with the exception of one Jersey milk cow.

We are still running herefords for their genetics and by going black are adding value for the commercial breeders.
